Judy Kang is a world renown violinist, has toured six continents and was hand picked by Lady Gaga as her solo violinist on Gaga’s Monster Ball Tour. Now she embarks on a new musical creation with cellist Dan Kassel and drummer Jake Valois. Together they make up the Judy Kang Experience playing cutting edge Rock and Pop hits that are personal to Judy in a 60 – 75 minute show. The band features Dan Kassel who is a versatile cellist who performs extensively throughout the Tri-State area and Philadelphia in a variety of ensembles ranging from classical to electronica, jazz and rock. Dan's career has taken him around the globe, and he's as comfortable in a chamber ensemble as he is accompanying a modern dance troupe. Jake Valois is a multi instrumentalist from Rockland County, NY. He started playing drums when he was 9 and developed his chops playing in bands by the time he was 14. He then began playing guitar and bass and started experimenting with recording software and production. Dan has played in a multitude of top cover and popular original bands and brings a big sound to the stage.
More on Judy…
Judy Kang has established herself as a renowned violinist, soloist, composer, producer, improviser, and collaborator, having toured 6 continents and has performed with a multitude of orchestras around the world. In the midst of performing on Lady Gaga’s Monsterball tour in Europe, she flew to NYC to perform at Stern Hall at Carnegie Hall. The New York Times wrote, "Judy Kang, a Canadian violinist and most likely the only musician to have worked with both Pierre Boulez and Lady Gaga, was featured in Brahms’s Violin Concerto. Ms Kang, who drew whoops from the audience before playing a single note, offered a lean, focused sound, pinpoint intonation and expressively molded phrasing. Every line seemed to mean something personal in what amounted to an amorous serenade."
She was accepted to the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music at 11 on full scholarship and At 17, graduated with a Bachelor in Music as one of the youngest graduates in its history. She won top prizes at numerous international competitions and received her Masters Degree from Juilliard at 19 and became the first recipient of the prestigious Artist Diploma at the Manhattan School of Music.
As violinist of Academy Award winning composer Ryuichi Sakamoto trio, she toured Europe and Asia in sold out shows and released 2 albums on Decca. Among her many collaborations include working alongside pop icon Lady Gaga who personally selected her as her solo violinist touring internationally and in various performances. She works with many non profits, charities, nursing/ retirement homes, prison ministry, and hospitals, and is a mentor and artist for Young Audiences (YA), artistic director and a member of EnoB, and artist and ambassador for WorldVision. The sole artist to be awarded the longest use of an instrument from the Canada Council Instrument Bank, Judy has been awarded the 1689 "Baumgartner" Stradivarius, through a generous donor.
